CWP DAY OF SERVICE

ON AUGUST 26TH, 2017, THE CWP YOUTH BOARD MEMBERS CHALLENGED THEMSELVES TO COMPLETE FOUR LARGE PROJECTS IN THE CITY OF DETROIT ON THE SAME DAY. AFTER MONTHS OF PLANNING AND PREPPING, THEY LED HUNDREDS OF VOLUNTEERS, MOSTLY YOUTH, IN SERVING THE LESS FORTUNATE. CHECK OUT THEIR PROJECTS…

Abby & Colin...

Abby and Colin moved two homeless families into homes that had been donated to the Detroit Rescue Mission. They worked closely with Lowe's all summer to remodel the houses. On August 26th, they turned the keys of two beautifully transformed homes over to two very deserving and happy families!

Joey & Grant...

Joey and Grant took on the lead role in our annual back-to-school party, Impacting by Backpacking. For the fourth year in a row, we partnered with Beulah Church to host a party in the city for underprivileged youth to come get free haircuts and manicures, play games, jump in a bounce house and eat great food. Most importantly, Joey and Grant made sure that every child left with a backpack full of school supplies!

Brendin & Ben...

Brendin and Ben wanted to help a group that gets overlooked a lot: the men at the treatment shelter. They are going through a very difficult time and their facility needed some work. Brendin and Ben thought it would be nice to remodel their movie room, clean their cafeteria, paint their hallways, and remodel the area where their children come to visit them on weekends. They enlisted the help of their classmates at Detroit Catholic Central, SunGlo Restoration, and Shepherd's Gate Church to brighten this facility and show the men that people care about them.

Caleb, Colin, Abby, Ben, Brendin, Joey, Grant, and Katy...

To celebrate the success of their projects, the entire CWP Board threw a party. But in true CWP fashion, they didn't throw it at a fancy restaurant or even a bowling alley, they threw it at the women and children's shelter! The board members all spend a lot of time at this Detroit Rescue Mission facility. They love the women and children who live here and wanted to give them a day of fun before summer's end. The Family Unity Party was a time for the women to invite their children who don't stay at the shelter with them (because they are too old) to spend a day together. The CWP team brought a DJ, a bounce house, face paint, games, and food. While they were outside at the party, Shepherd's Gate brought a team of volunteers to remodel four rooms inside of the shelter. It was a great day!

Friends,

We couldn't have done it without the help of so many amazing volunteers! We want to thank everybody who donated and helped make our Day of Service a success. A very special "thank you" to our amazing partners: The Detroit Rescue Mission, Lowe's, Meijer, Shepherd's Gate Church, SunGlo Restoration, Beulah Church, and Detroit Catholic Central.

         Love,

        The Caleb White Project Board
